    THE COMMA

    The comma (,) denotes a short pause. Commas are used for the following. 1. To separate items in a list or series; January, February, and March are the first three months of the year.   2. Words, phrases, or clauses in a series (and co-ordinate adjectives modifying the same noun) are separated by commas. I looked inside the hall and it was bright, clean, and quiet.
