SOCIO-POLITICAL ORGANISATION OF THE ORON
The Oron people are found mainly in present day Akwa-Ibom State. They represent the third largest group in the state and are closely linked to the Efik, Ibibio, Eket, Annang and Ibeno ethnic groups. The Oron are locally called Oro Ukpabang or Akpakip Oro. Oron is made up of nine clans called Afaha Okpo, Afaha Ukwong, Ebughu, Afaha Ibighi, Effiat, Afaha Ubodung, Etta, Afaha Okiuso and Afaha Idua.
The Oron people are domiciled in the flood plains of south-eastern Nigeria, with several streams and water bodies. The Oron, like the Efik, Ibibio and the southern Igbo, used the Ekpe society as their political authority. Because of her close relations with the other groups, they share a lot in terms of socio political organisations.
