Primary Structure of DNA

The primary structure of DNA refers to the linear sequence of nucleotides that make up the DNA molecule. Each nucleotide consists of a sugar (deoxyribose), a phosphate group, and one of four nitrogenous bases: adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C), or guanine (G). The sequence of these bases along the DNA strand forms the genetic code that carries the instructions for building and maintaining an organism.

 

Secondary Structure of DNA

The secondary structure of DNA refers to the double helix shape formed by two complementary strands of nucleotides. The two strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between the nitrogenous bases: adenine pairs with thymine, and cytosine pairs with guanine. This complementary base pairing allows DNA to replicate and transfer genetic information accurately.

In summary, the primary structure of DNA is the linear sequence of nucleotides, while the secondary structure is the double helix formed by two complementary strands.
