IN THE CASE OF A TENSION PNEUMOTHORAX, IN WHICH DIRECTION IS THE TRACHEA DEVIATED

In the case of a tension pneumothorax, the trachea is deviated away from the affected side. This deviation occurs due to the accumulation of air under pressure in the pleural space, causing a shift in the mediastinum and resulting in displacement of structures such as the trachea.

In other words, a tension pneumothorax is a serious medical condition that occurs when air accumulates in the pleural space, causing a buildup of pressure that can compress the lung and shift the mediastinum. One of the key clinical signs of tension pneumothorax is tracheal deviation, where the trachea is pushed away from the affected side due to the increased pressure in the chest cavity. This deviation occurs because the increased pressure on one side of the chest pushes the mediastinum and trachea towards the unaffected side, leading to a visible shift in the position of the trachea.
